Terms of Use

Last updated: September 17, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern access to and use of SourceBoard, including its websites, accounts, profiles, posts, comments, source-resolution features, public documentation, social features, Store, points, achievements, cosmetic systems, community cosmetic submissions, moderation tools, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to the policies incorporated by reference, including the Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, Acceptable Use Policy, Copyright & Attribution Policy, and other rules that apply to specific features.

If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

SourceBoard is a community platform designed to help people publish questions or claims, contribute context, discuss evidence, identify sources, and preserve a visible distinction between ordinary discussion, Accepted Sources, and Verified Sources.

SourceBoard does not guarantee that every post, comment, source, attribution, verification decision, profile statement, or user-provided link is complete, accurate, lawful, authentic, current, or suitable for any particular purpose.

SourceBoard may change, add, remove, limit, suspend, test, redesign, or discontinue features at any time.

2. Eligibility and authority

You may use SourceBoard only if:

  • you are legally permitted to use the Service;
  • you have the legal capacity required for your use of the Service;
  • your use does not violate applicable law, sanctions, court orders, or binding contractual restrictions; and
  • if you use SourceBoard on behalf of an organization, you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

If applicable law requires parental or guardian consent for your use, you are responsible for obtaining that consent.

3. Accounts

Some features require an account.

You are responsible for:

  • providing accurate information where accuracy is required;
  • maintaining control of your authentication methods;
  • protecting access to your account;
  • promptly addressing suspected unauthorized access;
  • keeping recovery information current where supported; and
  • all activity performed through your account unless the activity resulted from a security failure attributable to SourceBoard.

You may not sell, rent, transfer, share for abuse, or create accounts in order to evade restrictions or enforcement.

SourceBoard may require account, email, identity, or security verification for selected features.

4. Public identity and profile information

SourceBoard may allow you to create a public profile containing a username, display name, avatar, biography, links, achievements, reputation, cosmetic presentation, activity, or other information.

Information you choose to make public may be visible to other users, visitors, search engines, archival systems, automated systems, journalists, researchers, and third-party services.

Do not publish personal information that you do not want to be public.

5. User content

"User Content" includes posts, titles, descriptions, comments, replies, images, media, links, source leads, evidence summaries, profile content, cosmetic submissions, reports, and other material submitted through the Service.

You retain whatever ownership rights you lawfully hold in your User Content.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the rights, permissions, licenses, consents, or lawful basis necessary to submit your User Content.

You must not submit content that infringes intellectual-property rights, violates privacy rights, discloses unlawfully obtained information, impersonates others deceptively, contains malicious code, or otherwise violates these Terms or SourceBoard policies.

6. License to operate the Service

By submitting User Content, you grant SourceBoard a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, adapt for technical presentation, transmit, display, distribute within the Service, create previews of, moderate, and otherwise process that content as reasonably necessary to:

  • operate and provide the Service;
  • display content according to its selected visibility;
  • generate previews, thumbnails, excerpts, or accessibility formats;
  • preserve source-resolution history and attribution context;
  • protect the Service and its users;
  • review reports or disputes;
  • enforce policies; and
  • comply with applicable law.

This license does not transfer ownership of your User Content to SourceBoard.

Where content has been made public, technical copies, cached versions, quotations, third-party references, or lawful archival copies may continue to exist after deletion from SourceBoard.

7. Source attribution and resolution

SourceBoard uses source-resolution states to organize provenance and evidence.

An Accepted Source generally indicates that the author of a post selected a particular contribution as answering or resolving the source request.

A Verified Source reflects a separate Source Integrity determination based on review of available evidence.

These labels do not:

  • transfer copyright;
  • prove legal ownership;
  • guarantee factual accuracy;
  • guarantee authenticity in every respect;
  • establish that SourceBoard endorses every statement associated with the source;
  • create a professional certification; or
  • replace independent verification where stakes are significant.

SourceBoard may revise, dispute, revoke, or update source-resolution states when evidence changes or when a prior determination was incorrect, misleading, manipulated, or no longer supportable.

8. Comments, reactions, and social features

Users may be able to comment, reply, react, follow source trails, add media, connect with friends, block users, or interact through other social features.

These features must be used in accordance with the Community Guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy.

SourceBoard may limit, close, hide, remove, rank, de-emphasize, or otherwise manage discussion to protect users, preserve relevance, reduce abuse, or maintain source integrity.

9. Points, reputation, achievements, and digital items

SourceBoard may provide points, reputation, achievements, badges, emotes, profile effects, themes, frames, or other digital features.

Unless SourceBoard expressly states otherwise:

  • points are not money;
  • points have no guaranteed cash value;
  • digital items are licenses to use platform features, not ownership of underlying software or intellectual property;
  • points and items cannot be exchanged for legal tender through SourceBoard;
  • eligibility rules, prices, availability, and reward values may change;
  • rewards may be reversed when the qualifying activity is removed, fraudulent, manipulated, or otherwise ineligible; and
  • SourceBoard may correct balances or entitlements affected by technical error, abuse, duplication, fraud, or moderation.

SourceBoard may retire or redesign cosmetic items while making reasonable efforts to avoid unfairly depriving users of legitimate access.

10. Community-created cosmetics

Where SourceBoard allows users to propose cosmetics, themes, visual effects, emotes, frames, or other community-created assets, submission does not guarantee publication, approval, compensation, exclusivity, or continued availability.

You must have sufficient rights to submit the proposed asset.

SourceBoard may review, reject, modify, request changes to, disable, or remove community-created cosmetics for quality, safety, intellectual-property, accessibility, moderation, performance, or policy reasons.

Unless separate contributor terms state otherwise, submission does not transfer ownership of the creator's underlying original work.

11. Moderation and enforcement

SourceBoard may investigate potential policy violations and take proportionate action, including:

  • warnings;
  • content labels;
  • reduced visibility;
  • removal or disabling of content;
  • restrictions on posting, commenting, messaging, reactions, Store access, or other features;
  • reversal of illegitimate rewards;
  • source-integrity review;
  • temporary suspension;
  • permanent account bans;
  • account anonymization or deletion where appropriate; and
  • preservation of records necessary for safety, abuse prevention, dispute handling, or legal compliance.

SourceBoard is not required to disclose internal detection methods, confidential reports, security controls, or information that could enable abuse.

12. Reports and appeals

Users may report content, accounts, source determinations, intellectual-property concerns, security issues, privacy issues, or other violations through supported reporting channels.

Where an appeal or review mechanism is available, you must use it honestly and provide relevant information.

Repeatedly submitting knowingly false, abusive, duplicative, or retaliatory reports may itself violate these Terms.

13. Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • violate the Community Guidelines or Acceptable Use Policy;
  • bypass access controls, rate limits, blocks, suspensions, or security measures;
  • manipulate source verification, reputation, points, engagement, or rankings;
  • operate deceptive account networks;
  • use malware, credential theft, phishing, or malicious redirects;
  • exploit the Service to expose private information;
  • interfere with the availability or integrity of the Service;
  • use automation in a way that causes abuse, manipulation, excessive load, or circumvention; or
  • use SourceBoard primarily to facilitate unlawful activity.

SourceBoard relies on third-party infrastructure and service providers for functions such as hosting, content delivery, security, authentication, storage, media handling, communications, or other operational services.

SourceBoard may also contain links to third-party websites.

SourceBoard does not control third-party websites and is not responsible for their independent content, policies, security, availability, or practices.

A third-party provider supporting SourceBoard does not become the publisher, moderator, owner, or operator of user content merely because it provides infrastructure or technical services.

15. Intellectual property of SourceBoard

The SourceBoard name, branding, original interface elements, platform software, documentation, graphics, and other materials provided by SourceBoard may be protected by intellectual-property rights.

Except as permitted by law or an applicable open-source license, you may not copy, misrepresent, sell, sublicense, or use SourceBoard intellectual property in a way that implies endorsement, partnership, or official status without authorization.

16. Feedback

If you voluntarily provide ideas, suggestions, corrections, or product feedback, SourceBoard may use that feedback without restriction or obligation to compensate you, unless a separate written agreement states otherwise.

This does not grant SourceBoard ownership of unrelated User Content.

17. Availability and changes

The Service may occasionally be unavailable, delayed, degraded, limited, or interrupted.

SourceBoard does not promise uninterrupted availability, permanent preservation of every feature, or compatibility with every device, browser, integration, or third-party service.

SourceBoard may modify these Terms by publishing an updated version and changing the revision date. Where appropriate, SourceBoard may provide additional notice for material changes.

18. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

SourceBoard does not make a blanket warranty that:

  • user-generated content is accurate;
  • an Accepted Source or Verified Source is error-free;
  • third-party links are safe or permanent;
  • all abuse will be detected;
  • every report will result in action;
  • public content will remain available indefinitely; or
  • points, achievements, cosmetics, or other features will remain unchanged.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or warranties that cannot lawfully be excluded.

19. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SourceBoard will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use the Service, including loss of data, reputation, opportunity, revenue, profits, or anticipated savings.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it will be limited only to the extent permitted by applicable law.

This section does not limit liability that applicable law does not permit to be limited.

20. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to be responsible for claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful User Content, your material violation of these Terms, your infringement of third-party rights, or your misuse of the Service.

This section does not create obligations that applicable law prohibits.

21. Termination

You may stop using SourceBoard at any time.

SourceBoard may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary to:

  • enforce these Terms;
  • address security or abuse;
  • protect users or third parties;
  • comply with legal requirements;
  • prevent manipulation or fraud; or
  • discontinue the Service or a material part of it.

Termination does not automatically erase records that SourceBoard is permitted or required to retain for legitimate operational, safety, dispute, security, or legal purposes.

22. Severability

If a provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective to the extent permitted by applicable law.

An unenforceable provision should be interpreted as closely as legally possible to its intended purpose.

23. No waiver

Failure to enforce a provision immediately does not waive SourceBoard's right to enforce it later.

24. No country-specific governing-law designation

These Terms do not designate SourceBoard as resident or established in any particular country and do not make a universal choice of one country's law for all users.

Any mandatory law, court jurisdiction, consumer protection, or dispute forum that applies to a particular user or dispute will be determined under the applicable legal rules.

25. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the policies and feature-specific terms incorporated by reference, form the agreement governing use of SourceBoard unless a separate written agreement applies.

26. Contact

Questions, legal notices, and policy requests should be sent through SourceBoard's official support, legal, report, or contact channels as published on the Service.
